Katie's ignorance was once pretty rude and raucous. She was a jerk, and she didn't mind hurting other people. She even reveled in it. Other people were just stupid little toys for her to use and break.

However, after being enlightened with just how little she actually knows by glimpsing the depths of eternity, her attitude has mellowed out somewhat. The thrill of hurting people just isn't that exciting to her anymore. She doesn't run her mouth as often and seems to be trying to listen more. And to more than just words, she's trying to understand people's patterns with more EQ than before.

Emotional regulation and intelligence are very new skills for her. She is aware of this and is wading into the idea at her own damn pace. At the moment, she's a little reticent and standoffish. Hopefully she figures her shit out and can find more of her authentic self again, but without all the nastiness.

Katie Slape is born in 1854 to John Slape and "Mlle Desire". John Slape is employed on the railroads during the war, and "Mlle Desire" is a ballerina. Christmas Eve of 1863, "Mlle Desire" dies onstage after drunkenly colliding with a lamp and lighting her costume on fire. Family friend, Hannah Jepson, takes up the care of both Katie and John.

This 'care' becomes the problem of the Parrock family in 1866. Hannah Jepson manages to arrange a marriage with James Parrock and subsequently poisons him. Katie and John join her on the farm where they demand that Old Man Parrock sign over his fortune to them in his will. In 1871, Richard Parrock, under the pretense of seeing his lawyer for such a purpose, sends a distressed missive to his long-estranged daughter and his granddaughter: Mary and Philomela Drax. He begs them for their help.

Philomela comes to the farm disguised, poorly, as a servant. She tries to sneak around and make plans to rescue her grandfather, but Katie's psychic powers expose Philo. Once Philo has located the money, cashed and hidden under the old man's bed, the Slapes strike. They kill the old man, take off with the money, and leave Philo to take the fall.

This begins a vicious back-and-forth between Katie and Philo that will continue for the next 9 months. Katie murders Philo's mother and friends, and an incensed Philo hunts after her for vengeance. Karma takes care of John and Hannah, but Philo confronts Katie herself on a ferry. Rather than surrender and return the stolen money to Philo, Katie instead chooses to dive off the ferry, where it crushes her in half.

And that is how she boards the Barge.
